Custom Converted Confections: "Die Cut" Cookie Recipes for the Holiday Season

Custom Converted Confections: "Die Cut" Cookie Recipes for the Holiday Season

Here at JBC, our greatest passion is providing our customers with high-performance custom engineered die-cut solutions. Our second biggest passion? Cookies.

In the spirit of this holiday season, we thought it apropos to shift our focus away from the multi-layered die-cut parts we're known for, to something much tastier. Although it may not seem like it, making Christmas cookies is a lot more like precision die-cutting than you'd think (except die-cutting probably uses fewer sprinkles). Both processes include combining different materials (ingredients) and utilizing different types of dies (cookie cutters) to cut out various high-performance parts (delicious cookies).

Our love of cookies runs deep here at JBC, with our very own scheduler Valerie Roth, recently competing in a Christmas cookie-baking competition. We don't want to be the only ones who get to have all the die-cutting fun though, so we compiled some die-cut cookie recipes for you to try at home.

Seven Layer Cookies

Made famous by Italian American Immigrants in early 1900's New York, seven-layer Venetian cookies are a staple of any holiday dessert table. Put your own twist on the classic tricolor cookie with this customizable recipe. Not your style? Check out this nutty take on the seven-layer cookie with graham cracker crumbs, butterscotch chips, and pecans.
The real-world converting counterpart to these classic confections is the process of multilayer laminating. Just as each layer of the cookie comes together to create a cohesive final product, so does the laminated part. Laminated products such as TABShield, combine high-performance insulation materials with a strong adhesive backing to create a versatile high-performance final product.

Jam-Filled Cut-Out Cookies

With a little bit of value-added engineering, you can make even the smallest tweak to a part and turn it into something totally new. These jam-filled cut-out cookies are no exception. This recipe takes the classic Christmas cookie and takes it to a new level by simply adding a jam filling. If these raspberry jam cookies aren't your jam, check out this recipe for some cream cheese jam-filled sugar cookies.
This too, has its own less delicious converting counterpart. Though not as simple as the addition of one single ingredient, processes like island placement and multilayer laminating add a new level of value and functionality to your project.

Classic Die-Cut Sugar Cookies

Old reliable. This list simply wouldn't be complete without a solid recipe for class Christmas sugar cookies. A classic for a reason, this tried-and-true recipe is great on its own, or as a base to add your own flair too. Get wild with your die-cut shapes and make them your own!
As simple and as versatile as the classic sugar cookie, single-layer die-cut parts can be cut in countless different shapes, from almost any thin flexible material. Whether it's gasketing, sound or vibration dampening, sealing, thermal or electrical insulation, heat spreading, or a myriad of other applications, the humble single-layered die-cut part is more than meets the eye.

We hope at least one of these recipes makes its way onto your dessert table this holiday season. But don't forget the most important part of every recipe: they are better enjoyed in the company of friends and family.

Happy Holidays from JBC!
