Faces of JBC: Get to Know Dave Casella
Welcome to the next edition of our “Faces of JBC Technologies” series. We continue to feature the faces behind our brand, the people who every day bring their best to the table and help to ensure our customers receive the highest quality products and services.
Our employees are the key to achieving our main purpose: make doing business easy for every customer. Today we feature Senior Manufacturing Engineer, Dave Casella.
Q: Where did you work before joining JBC?
After I graduated from Cleveland State University, I worked for Westinghouse in Pittsburgh for about 15 years. At Westinghouse, I helped build nuclear power plants for U.S. Navy submarines and ships.
Q: How long have you been a Senior Manufacturing Engineer with JBC?
I have been a Senior Manufacturing Engineer since I joined JBC in 2010.
Q: What are your main responsibilities as a Senior Manufacturing Engineer?
I am responsible for developing new processes and improving new processes - improving productivity to ultimately reduce costs for us and our customers. In my job, I get to work with many different business units here at JBC, from technical sales to outside sales, purchasing, maintenance, and quality.
Q: What part of your job gets you the most energized?
I am passionate about automating processes - particularly when it comes to developing value-add solutions for our customers.
For example, JBC makes foam sealers and washers for the automotive industry. It used to be that our customers' teams had to hand-apply these parts to plastic clips to seal out water, reduce squeaks and rattles. I was part of the team that automated that process. We automated the process of sorting the clips and washers into a certain orientation and then assembling the washers to the clips. This significantly reduced our customer’s costs. I love developing solutions like that.
Q: What would you say is the best part of working for JBC?
I am proud of the variety of high-quality products that we make here at JBC. And I enjoy that I rarely do the same thing day after day.
It’s exciting that JBC can solve problems very quickly. When a customer brings us a challenge that needs to be overcome, we can go out to the shop and try something very quickly, which helps to point us in the right direction. When I was in the nuclear industry, we couldn’t do anything fast because of the nature of what we were building. JBC, on the other hand, offers state-of-the-art systems and equipment, deep engineering expertise, and a wide variety of materials in-house, enabling us to quickly develop solutions for just about any customer challenge.
Q: What are some of your interests outside of work (e.g., hobbies)?
I enjoy sailing, golfing, and hanging out with my awesome girlfriend. I own a Catalina 27 and like to get out on the lake here as much as I can. I also love to spend time with my three daughters, as well as my 15-month-old grand-daughter.
For the last twelve years, I have also enjoyed doing mission work here in the United States.
